About DigiLotus Solutions

1.  BACKGROUND

DLS’s mission, vision and business strategy are based on the diverse range of work that Prof. Wadhwa, a successful technology entrepreneur, strategy consultant, educator and marketing executive, who has been working in the areas of Strategy & Innovation Consulting, Organizational Capability-Building, Analytics and Personal Leadership over the last 15years, both at Columbia Business School and with corporations and business executives in the US and India.
2. CAPABILITY-BUILDING OUTSOURCING

The maturing field of BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) has evolved into KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing) in recent years, with a focus on the outsourcing of more value-added activities such as analytics and legal work.  DLS focuses on an emerging field within KPO that we call Capability-Building Outsourcing.
Capability-Building refers to the content, tools and processes that organizations and individuals utilize in order to develop new capabilities.  Historically, capability-building has happened through the following sources:

  • Organizational capability-building
  • Internal sources:  HR groups, evaluation processes, informal mentors
  • External sources: Universities/Organizational consultants, trainers & coaches
  • Individual capability-building
  • Universities/colleges/institutes, books, personal tutors/trainers/coaches

More recently, the field of E-Learning has emerged as a way to enable a more remote/outsourced approach to the delivery of educational/training content.  This has lead to the development of Education / Training Outsourcing, one of the actively growing areas within KPO.
Capability-Building Outsourcing is an extension of Education/Training Outsourcing.  Training and Education are typically one-time interventions (workshops, courses, seminars), whereas to truly build a capability, an organization or individual often needs to supplement these one-time interventions with one or more of the following:
  1. Peer-to-peer engagement (to support individuals in their personal or professional development journey)
  2. Ongoing coaching and feedback from an expert
  3. Access to deeper content (beyond what is offered in the training programme) that is relevant for their unique challenges / needs
  4. Ability to calibrate themselves – measure progress, evaluate strengths/weaknesses
  5. Database of best practices
  6. Processes and systems that help implement the capability (for use within organizations)
  7. Guidance to organizational leaders on how to best design and execute capability-building initiatives within their organizations
We are today witnessing rapid evolution in e-learning platforms, social media, communications, and global access to digital content via computers and mobile platforms.  These developments enable rich innovation in the design and delivery of an end-to-end Capability-Building solution to organizations and individuals based on their specific domains of need/interest.  In additional to online courses/content/training, these IT-enabled Capability-Building solutions will include several offerings that address the broader scope of capability-building:

  1. Library of relevant “deep-dive” content that addresses specific customer needs that cannot be delivered in courses/seminars
  2. Learning networks where individuals embarked on a certain capability-building journey can engage with each other
  3. Remote delivery of coaching services
  4. Live webinars that supplement the courses/seminars with fresh, updated content from an expert
  5. Online evaluations that can be used to periodically calibrate and guide/focus an individual’s capability-building efforts
  6. Mobile applications that provide everyday reminders and guidance on specific techniques/content related to the capability-building journey
Many of these elements are starting to come together.  It is our vision that the Capability-Building ecosystem – infrastructure, content, solutions, and providers – will evolve rapidly in the next decade and will have a substantial impact in both (a) improving the quality of capability-building solutions and (b) providing broader access to these solutions across different communities.
